About Us

David C. Cook

American Karate Centers is owned and operated by David C. Cook. Mr. Cook has been teaching martial arts for 20 years. The school is a family centered business, which he runs with the help of his wife Jeannine and his son Bryan. His grandsons Ethan and Wesley can also be found taking classes and helping out when they can.

Our style, under the umbrella "American Freestyle Karate", is a unique system blended from Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's Art) along with Israeli and Russian military based fighting systems. We are not a traditional "Karate" school in that we do not teach katas (memorized patterns of stances, punches, blocks, etc.). Most of our class time is focused on real life scenarios to prepare you to defend yourself or a loved one in the event it is needed. Our self defense techniques are battlefield tested and will give you confidence to defend yourself in any circumstance.

We do compete in sport karate tournaments in point sparring, continuous point sparring, weapons, and self defense. Tournaments are not required but add a fun new dimension to martial arts that allows our students to travel and meet other martial artists their age and rank and be able to compete against other styles. Our competition team has a great reputation and have students who have won 2nd in the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Championship in Orlando, FL.

Our classes are fun and high energy while practicing practical techniques as well as encouraging each other to be exemplary citizens in the communities that we work and live in.
